We own test execution at scale, including smart test selection, sharding, flaky-test detection, and the observability layer that turns testing into a speed advantage instead of a bottleneck. As AI accelerates the pace of code generation, test infrastructure is becoming a critical path for how quickly Coinbase delivers value to customers. We’re hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join Developer Infrastructure - Test — someone who can set the direction for how Coinbase tests and ships software. <h4 class="wnfdnth _1ibi0s33y _1ibi0s34u">What you’ll do</h4> <ul class="wnfdnte"> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> Define and own the technical strategy for test infrastructure across Coinbase engineering, with feedback speed as a core design constraint. </li> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> Build and operate core test infrastructure services, including test orchestration, smart test selection, sharding, flaky-test detection, and test result analysis. </li> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> Reduce the time between code changes and trustworthy test results. </li> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> Improve test reliability so engineers can depend on signals without reruns or second-guessing outcomes. </li> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> Own systems end to end, including architecture, observability, SLOs, and on-call operations. </li> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> Partner with engineering teams across Coinbase to identify bottlenecks and turn them into platform improvements. </li> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> Mentor engineers, raise technical standards, and shape how the organization approaches test infrastructure. </li> </ul> Required Skills and Experience: <ul> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> 10+ years building and operating production software, with strong distributed systems fundamentals and proficiency in Go or a similar language. </li> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> Track record of defining and delivering technical strategy for foundational systems that other teams depend on. </li> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> Deep experience in test infrastructure, including test execution at scale, flaky-test detection, test selection, sharding, or test result analysis. </li> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> Strong operational instincts with a focus on reliability, security, and observability. </li> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> Customer-focused mindset, with success measured by impact on the engineers who depend on your systems. </li> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> Familiarity with test selection approaches and the tradeoffs between speed and coverage. </li> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> Experience operating at scale with Kubernetes, AWS, GitHub Actions, Terraform, and containers. </li> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> Experience with observability and performance tooling such as Datadog, especially for distributed test execution. </li> <li class="wnfdntd _1ibi0s33w"> Curiosity about crypto or web3; experience in regulated or security-sensitive environments is a plus. </li> <li>Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.</li> </ul>   #PID - P76990<div class="content-pay-transparency"><div class="pay-input"><div class="description">Pay Transparency Notice: Base salary varies by location (see range below).
